Free weights or Weight Machines in the gym?

What a great and never-ending topic is this for the beginner who started the workout at the gym. (Free Weights or Machines).


Free Weights :

A name itself defining a lot, Free weights are equipment's that are not attached to any other structural device such as- Dumbbells, Kettlebells, and barbell.

With the help of this equipment, you have to put 100% efforts and Focus by yourself while performing an exercise.



Free Weights Exercises : 
  • Dumbbell Curls
  • Dumbbell Chest Press
  • Dumbbell Front Squats
  • Triceps Kickbacks
  • Dumbbell wood choppers
  • Biceps Curls
  • Kettlebell Walking Lunge
And there are so many exercises you can find to perform by Free weights.

Free Weights Advantage :
  • Barbells are super useful as they allow you to move the most weight and are best for Strength and building muscles.
  • Dumbbells are also most important as they are good for instability and for volume.
  • Development of better Balance with free weights.
  • Unlimited Exercises with free weights.
  • Free weights work for the whole body Strength.
  • Can adjust each exercise according to your body.
  • They allow you to do the workout at a gym as well as at Home.
  • Less Expensive in comparison with Machines. 

Free Weights Disadvantages :
  • You can't lift too heavy weights as a beginner as it can cause serious injury to you.
  • Due to Countless Free weight Exercises, it becomes difficult to choose which exercise is best for your body.


Machines :
Machines are the heavy piece of equipment for doing a workout that usually takes up the most at gym floor. There are the variety of machines you can find online and in the gym, some of them that commonly used are - Squat Station, Bench Press, Cables & Pulleys, Leg Extension Machine and many more.




Weight Machine Exercise Advantages:
  • Easy to use for Beginners- most of the machines are very much easy to use for beginners and you do not feel to find a trainer to give guidance for them or train you to how to use them.
  • To work on an individual or targeted muscles group, Machines provide a better result.
  • Machines can be useful to train the lagging muscles groups.

Weight Machine Exercise Disadvantages :

  • Machines don't fit every body type equally, as you cannot adjust them according to your body.
  • Some heavy machines can injure you more if you are inexperienced and new to strength training. 


Conclusion :
  • Free weights allow you to move in any direction while Weight machine has a limit that doesn't make you move in any direction.
  • Free weights are extremely helpful for the whole body strengthening whereas, weight machines are best for strengthening particular muscle groups.
  • Free Weights are comparatively less expensive than weight machines, also consume less space than that of machines.
  • Free weights and weight machines both have advantages and disadvantages, you cannot say which one will suit your body.
  • To find out the result we need to check them personally and find out which one is best for your body type.
  • If you are a beginner and want to work at home than you must hire a good Trainer and start with free weights else you can join a gym and do the workout with the help of weight machines.
  • Both works differently to different people, do not get too much depend on only free weights or on only machines, you have to make the balance between both.
